So, we were spending (wasting) some time surfing videos on youtube, and among some amusing cat videos and rather painful looking faceplants on the slopes, we came across something truly inspiring.
Amy Purdy is a double amputee. She used to compete in snowboarding events. She developed bacterial meningitis, which led to a bunch of complications and eventually had both her legs amputated. But this lady is a fighter...and a ferocious one at that....and got back up and on to her snowboard. We have nothing but respect for her and her unbreakable spirit.
The youtube video was uploaded by Disabled Sports USA. We don't really know anything about them, but they seem to be doing a whole lot of good for disabled folks get involved in sports...and that is just a good thing all round. If you want to know more about them, here is their webpage.
But back to Amy. There are a whole bunch of videos of her on YouTube. Notably that she has talked about her condition and what she has done on TEDTalks and has competed in Dancing With The Stars season 3. Look her up. You will be inspired!
